Hi, I’m Bob.

I’m the Executive Director of Mississippi Coding Academies, a veteran IT guy, lifelong problem-solver, and proud Mississippi dad. My job is simple on paper and big in practice: build real pathways into tech careers for people who have the grit, the curiosity, and the heart to do the work—whether or not they’ve ever written a line of code.

About Me

I’ve spent more than three decades in information technology, starting in the U.S. Army as a Signal Support Systems Specialist and later serving in communications and IT leadership roles across state agencies, cities, hospitals, and emergency management. Before joining Mississippi Coding Academies, I served as Chief Information Officer for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, helping modernize systems and support the state through challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those experiences shaped how I see technology: not as gadgets and buzzwords, but as tools to solve real problems for real people. I care deeply about making sure those tools are accessible—especially to people and communities that have historically been left out of tech.

A few things that drive me:

People first. Tech matters — but the people matter more.
Hands-on learning. You don’t learn this work by watching from the sidelines.
Mississippi roots, global reach. Talent is everywhere; opportunity is what we create.

Outside of work, I’m a musician, an artist, an animal lover, and a dad who thinks about the future my kids — and all our coders — are inheriting.

What I Do at Mississippi Coding Academies

As Executive Director, I get to wear a lot of hats:

Program & curriculum strategy across software development, AI, XR, cybersecurity, drones, IT support, and emerging tech.
Partnerships & workforce alignment with employers, funders, and statewide partners.
Team leadership across multiple campuses as we grow the NeXT ecosystem.
Innovation & future readiness, ensuring MCA stays ahead of the market and prepares learners for tomorrow’s tech.

At the end of the day, my measure of success is simple:
Are our learners getting where they want to go?

Mississippi Coding Academies (MCA) is a nonprofit offering no-cost, intensive, workforce-aligned tech training to Mississippians who are ready to work hard and change their lives.
