MCA graduates and teachers line up for a graduation group photo

On May 20, 2022, students from Mississippi Coding Academies’ Downtown and South Jackson campuses received their hard-earned certificates of completion after 11 months of learning front- and back-end “full stack” computer coding.

Graduate Remilekun Odegbami delivered a thank you speech to the teachers and students by video from her home country of Nigeria. She attended MCA remotely across many time zones and received her certificate.

Amazon.com AI engineer Dr. Nashlie Sephus, a member of the MCA Board of Directors, the developer of the Jackson Tech District, and CompTIA’s Mississippian of the Year, delivered an inspiring keynote speech.

Willie Jackson, director of the South Jackson MCA campus, Mike Forster, Chairman and CEO and Jackson Senior Instructor Herbert Brown all congratulated the graduates and shared wisdom for the path ahead.

The group honored the memorial of MCA co-founder Richard A. Sun, who passed away in April. Mike Forster and Rich’s wife, Dr. Phyllis Hollenbeck MD, spoke words of remembrance his honor.

The celebration’s location—Dependable Source Corp Center for Community and Workforce Development—is also the location of the South Jackson MCA campus. Area employers and economic development leaders were invited to the evening to celebrate and network with the new batch of coders.

Congratulations to the newest members of the Mississippi tech industry!
